Labiaplasty and Cosmetic Enhancement

A labiaplasty is a genital surgical procedure that reduces or changes the size of the inner lips of the vagina also called the labia minora.

Many women are born with large or irregular labia. Others may develop this condition after childbirth or with aging. The appearance of enlarged labia may cause embarrassment with a sexual partner or loss of self esteem. In addition, severe labial irritation can sometimes develop in women who wear tight clothing. Discomfort may occur with sex, sports, or other physical activities.

Labiaplasty can greatly enhance the cosmetic appearance of the outer vagina giving many women greater confidence and self esteem. Women whose labia become painful often find relief after surgery. Women who have had this procedure are very happy with their results and say they “feel prettier”.

Can I Still Have a Labiaplasty if I Haven’t Had Children Yet?

Dr. Glick has performed many labia reduction surgeries on younger patients who have not yet had children. This procedure is to reduce the size of the labia which may cause irritation or unhappiness because of their appearance.

How Long Does the Procedure Take?

Usually, the average length of this procedure is between 1 and 2 hours.

Will I Be Awake During Surgery?

No, Dr. Glick uses local sedation which puts you to sleep during the procedure and you will awake within minutes after the surgery is completed.

Are There Risks Involved In Labiaplasty Surgery?

The common risks of surgery may include bleeding, infection and scarring, however these are very unusual.

What Can I Expect After My Surgery?

There will be some discomfort at the surgical site for the first few days which will then decrease. All patients are given prescriptions prior to surgery for pain and antibiotics to prevent infection.

Full healing takes approximately 6 weeks. The sutures used are dissolvable and do not need to be removed.

Patients can return to work in 2-4 days after surgery. Sexual activity may resume in 6 to 8 weeks after the procedure.

Will Labiaplasty Surgery Result in Decrease in Sensation?

Most women experience sensation and pleasure in the clitoris not the labia. Therefore, you should not notice any loss of pleasurable sensation after surgery.

Will My Sexual Partner Notice a Difference After My Labiaplasty Surgery?

If the labia were interfering with intercourse, both of you will notice an improvement. Visually, your partner should notice that your labia are now smaller and better proportioned.
