VaginoplastyWhat is a Vaginoplasty (Vaginal Tightening) Surgery?A vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure that tightens the vagina. This is done by removing excess vaginal lining and tightening the surrounding soft tissues and muscles. During delivery of a baby, the vagina and surrounding tissues and muscles become stretched. After delivery the vagina may return to a more “normal” size, but often fails to return to its’ pre pregnancy size. The more vaginal deliveries, the worse the condition gets. Many women will complain of decreased sensation and sexual satisfaction during intercourse. This is commonly due to the lack of friction. Often their partner may notice a change although he may say nothing. Kegel exercises are often recommended but rarely succeed in restoring vaginal tightness. Vaginal tightening surgery will tighten the vagina and surrounding tissues resulting in a vaginal tightness similar to before the patient had children. Some Vaginoplasty patients have never had children but have a larger vaginal opening. Vaginoplasty surgery can help these women as well. Is Vaginal Tightening Right For Me?Most women who seek vaginal tightening complain of being “loose”. They experience a decrease in friction during intercourse resulting in lower levels of sexual satisfaction and more difficulty in climaxing. A tighter vagina will increase friction during intercourse. After surgery, the vaginal tightness is similar to pre-delivery. You will easily notice the difference and so will your partner. Are There Risks Involved With Vaginal Tightening Surgery? The most common risks of surgery may include bleeding, infection, and scarring, however these are very unusual. Bleeding is controlled during the surgery and antibiotics are given after surgery to prevent infection. Scarring for this type of procedure is rare. How Long Does the Procedure Take? The average length of the procedure is between 1 and 2 hours. What Type Of Anesthesia Is Used for Surgery?Dr. Glick performs this surgery under local sedation. You will be asleep during the procedure and will awaken within minutes after the surgery is completed. Local anesthesia services are included in the cost of the procedure. If the patient elects to have general anesthesia, a fee of $400 will be added to the costs. What Happens After Surgery? You will have some discomfort at the surgical site for the first few days which will decrease. Full healing takes approximately 6 weeks. All sutures are dissolvable and do not need to be removed. Most patients can return to work within 2-5 days.
